When Star Wars fans last saw John Boyega’s Finn in the The Force Awakens he was left injured during the lightsaber battle with Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. While Finn was seen being taken away by paramedics, now comes word about what he is doing following that fight. FN-2187 was trained since birth to serve the First Order as a stormtrooper, but a skirmish on Jakku awakened his conscience and drove him down a different path, one that proved both heroic and dangerous.
Making Star Wars has posted new details about Finn’s recovery which will be seen in the early parts of the Rian Johnson-directed next chapter in the saga.
After a friendly goodbye kiss from Rey in the last film, Finn is placed in a ‘bacta suit’ and there will be a sequence in which he is cut or removed from the suit and reportedly emerges “in better condition than ever before”.
After that, he goes on a journey that will make him “a big deal” within the ranks of the Resistance. Boyega himself has previously teased the new film is “much darker” and he has a more physical role this time.

Oscar Isaac, whose character Poe Dameron first appeared in JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens, has described Rian Johnson’s follow-up as “an independent film.”
Driver compared Star Wars: Episode 8 to The Empire Strikes Back in an interview and the internet picked up that quote and ran with it. Because who doesn’t love The Empire Strikes Back, right? Well, in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Driver said that what he was trying to say didn’t come across properly:
No, no, and that’s not even what I said. What I said was the tone of it was different, I didn’t say that it was gonna be in the vein of [it]—I was using it as an example, so poor example. Next time I should say—I’m trying to think of another sequel to a movie that’s good. When I read the script, it was not what I expected, in the best of ways.
Episode VIII will be released December 2018 and will see new cast additions including Laura Dern and Warwick Davis. The new film is not expected to open until late next year. Before then we have “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” this December. That film is reportedly set to unleash a new trailer later this week according to the site.
In Force Awakens, approximately 30 years after the destruction of the second Death Star, the last remaining Jedi, Luke Skywalker, has disappeared. The First Order has risen from the fallen Galactic Empire and seeks to eliminate the New Republic. The Resistance, backed by the Republic and led by Luke’s twin sister, General Leia Organa, opposes them while searching for Luke to enlist his aid.
